Tips for Identity Theft Prevention

There are lots of simple ways to prevent identity theft. First, shred all of your mail. Shredders are inexpensive and a great way to keep dumpster divers from grabbing your information. Second, keep your phone number unlisted. When people call your house, they may have your number but often don't have your name. Callers will use subtle tactics to get your name. Don't give it up. Third, ask your Doctor, employer, and bank about their privacy policy and the protection they take with your information. Make note of what the file looks like when you visit your Doctor and where it is stored. Is it near a door? Does the Doctor have a camera system on the files to identify a perpetrator? How easy is it to grab a file and walk out the door? Same for your bank. remember, any bank employee can get your critical information in seconds with very little information. Protect yourself with the right coverage in the event of a breach.
